Well, this isn't really a mic check and no band is going to start playing shortly. However, this is a test. Would you read this book after reading the following?
Why or why not? What works and doesn't work in this blurb for the back of a book. Please comment.
Set in post WWII England on a country estate, a doctor arrives full of hope and the innocence of youth. He quickly becomes the local miracle worker. But without a full understanding of the realities of life, he sets out to right injustices that he doesn't fully understand and unravels the delicate balance between good and evil, rich and poor, and the struggling economy still reliant on rationing and the black market.

Having understanding and understand in the same sentence twice is a bit confusing. However, the rest of the sentence does peak my interest, especially how the black market helps the economy.

Thoughts in Progress
I agree with Mason. Overall, it does sound like an interesting story.
ReplyDeleteGood point. I dashed it off before my shower, now I must 'dash' off to work. (Too much again?)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I appreciate the comments. I'll try again when I return tonight. (7:20 AM Arizona time right now.)
Set in post WWII England on a council (not country) estate, a doctor arrives full of hope and the innocence of youth. He quickly becomes the local miracle worker. But without a full understanding of the realities of life, he sets out to right injustices that he doesn't fully grasp (instead of understand) and unravels the delicate balance between good and evil, rich and poor, and the struggling economy still reliant on rationing and the black market.
ReplyDelete'especially how the black market helps the economy.' - it's not suggested that the black market helps the economy. A struggling, ie poor economy, where the people are poor need the black market for luxury goods or sometimes even necessities.
ReplyDeleteGlyn, I think that is the perfect rewrite. That is what is going on the back of your book and on the website. Ta-Da! We're getting closer...are you getting excited? I've really worked you hard for the last 8 months, haven't I? Next question...where are we on the cover art. Did you like that concept I sent the other day?
ReplyDeleteI like the cover art, sorry for not saying so much. Remember we had a problem with photos, which as I think they are in my collection isn't a problem any more. Can you test run it here?
ReplyDeleteGlyn, I think we've covered the photo problems sufficently. I'll change the file type and post a sample cover next week. That is a weekend type project.
ReplyDeleteAlso, go to the home page of my website (not the draft of the Cactus Rain site) and look at how we have the back covers available. That will be done on Cactus Rain too. What do you think of that?
That is good. Like it.
ReplyDeleteg.
Ah, the dreaded synopsis. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me Glyn
Stand by, Glynis, I've started reading yours! Will email when finished.
