Party with KARL MOORE!

We are partying halfway into our fourth week - and 'they' said it couldn't be done! Well, we party hardy! We rock! We chat! We give away autographed books! Everyone is invited, everyone!

Once again, our guest writer had so much fun that by the end of the day she doubled her offer of autographed books. The winners of Cathy's book are (cover your ears, they're gonna scream - I guarantee it) Ivana and Peggy! Congratulations ladies! This just proves it is easy to win, if you play. (don't need to email me, I have your addresses)

One of my first memories of Karl Moore is he emailed me an audio email. How techy is that! So AOL talked to me in this dreamy British voice, Karl's. He is amazing. He is a very energetic young man who sponsors MyWritersCircle.com, so there is no fee to join the awesom-est writer's forum on the planet.

Karl is the host of writersFM.com and does the most well done author interviews I've heard. He has an easy laugh and a kind heart. Go look at Karl's smile. http://www.karlmoore.com/ Click around his website and find all of his radio shows or go find the links to some of them on the links page on my website (bet Karl didn't know they were there!)

Karl is a spiritual person, I'd guess (as the Native Americans say) he is an old spirit. A couple of years ago Karl was in Sedona, Arizona. To get there from the Phoenix airport, Karl was within 5 miles of my house! Too bad we hadn't arranged a cup of coffee (or tea) and a chat.

Today's gift book is one of Karl's newest books out The Secret Art of Self Development. You have to listen to Karl explain it on the YouTube below. One amazing fact is he launched three books simultaneously - world wide! The other two books are: The 18 Rules of Happiness, and The Little Book of Inspiration. He is such an over achiever, he also has audio book versions on Amazon US. http://www.karlblog.com/2009/05/international-book-launch.html

Party game: Karl likes inspirational quotes. Post your favorite inspirational quotes - attributed please - in the comment section to be eligible to win an autographed copy of The Secret of Self Development. The competition will be stiff, post as many as you can.

This is the place to party without worrying about typos in the comments (who cares?) -- this is after all, only the FIRST DRAFT.

  6. Sounds to me, Glyn, you might need to buy Karl's book of quotes.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Are you looking these up? I could do this if we were doing lines from a movie...hmmm, idea for next blog party - note to self.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Glyn, you are sure making a run for it today. I'm still trying to think of my favorite one...there are so many good quotes out there, and as you pointe out, so many from song lyrics.

  9. Funny, I just RTd this on Twitter I liked it so much

"People who are really "passionate" about something don't say it, they bleed it." From a guy called Mark Walsh - don't know if its his or borrowed. But it's good.

  17. Morning, everyone. Really looking forward to partying with Karl today. I've been working closely with him for at least five years now, and can't believe he's still only just turned 30!

Here's one of my favorite inspirational quotes, and I have to admit I heard it first from Karl:

"A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for." - William Shedd

And this one's a long-time favorite of mine:

"Consider the postage stamp. Its usefulness consists in the ability to stick to one thing till it gets there." - Josh Billings

I use the latter quote in all my writing courses ;-)

  20. Hehe, hi guys!! Thanks for the quotes, Nick - but I'm NOT 30! :p

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey! We're twins. I'm not 30 either!

Thanks for the nice words on your blog this morning. You are dreamy, but what's with the hat?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Seriously Karl, what are the names of the other two books you launched at the same tiom as The Secret To Self Development?

  25. Good Morning, Trish! Welcome to the party! Good quotes there, glad I don't have to select the winner.

  26. Hi to all you beautiful people!

Nadine, I was screaming indeed. I bet Peggy will too. Maybe later we will scream together. :)
Thank you, Cathy! You're a sweetheart!

Karl, nice to meet you! I'm off to visit your blog!

I love the far fetched quote that, once you decide to do something, the whole universe conspires to make it happen. I don't know who said it, but it's proven true so many times!

Then there is one I read on an underwear add-Use your talent, the forest would be silent if only the birds who sing the best would do so.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi Ivana, I think the universe conspiring quote is from Paul Coelho.

There are many wonderful quotes out there - how about folks make up a few?

"You will not find the answer to life's questions in the fluff within your navel"

    That's my contribution.

    Goodnight Nadine.

    Carrie

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good morning, Ivy! Congratulations! You know, I don't select the winners. Cathy has been out of town, it was so cute. She said, I'll give two books, what about Ivy and Peggy, have they won yet.

Ahem, just a bit - but the more you play, the more you win, right?

    ReplyDelete
  29. You read my mind, Carrie. I'm getting sleepy. It is almost 3 AM here.

I'll add a quote from Storm Surge that I wrote: You are the person you are when you think no one is watching.

With that, goodnight for a few hours. I'll be back.

Just stopped by to offer a couple of quotes, then I MUST get back to work. (Nadine, if I show up again, you have my permission to tell me in a very stern voice to get back to my revisions!!)

    Quotes for the day:

"Success is a finished book, a stack of pages each of which is filled with words. If you reach that point, you have won a victory over yourself no less impressive than sailing single-handed around the world."
    --Tom Clancy

    ReplyDelete
  64. Another great quote for writers...

"Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass."- Anton Chekhov

That's undoubtedly the most poetic way of expressing 'Show, don't Tell' that I've ever heard!

    ReplyDelete
  65. That is a good one.
BTW, your book went in the post yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  66. As of today, 10 hours into the party, we have had visitors from 47 countries...you can quote me on that!

    ReplyDelete
  67. If the eye is the window of the soul, then stories are its voice!

Guess who said that? I bet you know her :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Oh I love this contest! Thank you Karl. I adore good quotes so much that I had to include one with every story in my book. Then I went back and used inspiring song lyrics with every chapter. Now that was a test of dedication. Has anyone ever tried getting permission to use someone's lyrics in a book? Not that easy!

Thanks to all of you, I now have more good ones for the next book. At the risk of overwhelming the system, here are some of my all-time favorites. The first one, I think, says it all.

“If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair, we’d never have a friendship, we’d never go into business, because we’d be cynical. Well, that’s nonsense. You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down.”
    Ray Bradbury

“It's the heart, afraid of breaking, that never learns to dance.
It's the dream, afraid of waking, that never takes a chance.
It's the one who won't be taken, who cannot seem to give.
And the soul, afraid of dyin', that never learns to live.”
The Rose ~ lyrics by Amanda McBroom

“If you ask me what I came to do in this world ... I am here to live out loud.”
    Emile Zola

“Every day brings a chance for you to draw in a breath, kick off your shoes, and dance.”
    Oprah Winfrey

“Now, I'm not countin' on riches or fame to make my mark
The best I can do is touch someone and hope they feel my spark
And maybe add a little sunlight where no sun ever shines,
'Cause I gotta be more than just two lines in the Oklahoma City Times”
Oklahoma City Times ~ lyrics by Paul Hampton

“Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives, and when he isn’t around, he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?”
Henry Travers talking to James Stewart
    in It’s a WonderfulLife

Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."
    From The Velveteen Rabbit
    By Margery Williams

"Wherever you are, whatever your circumstances may be, whatever misfortune you may have suffered, the music of your life has not gone. It's inside you -- if you listen to it, you can play it.”
    Nido Qubein

“Whoever you are there is some younger person who thinks you are perfect. There is some work that will never get done, unless you do it. There is someone who would miss you if you were gone. And there is a place that you alone can fill.”
    Jacob M. Braude

"Listen to the passion of your soul, set the wings of your spirit free; and let not a single song go unsung.”
    Sylvana Rossetti

“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.”
    Maya Angelou

“I don’t want to get to the end of my life and find that I have lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.”
    Diane Ackerman

“Eat what you don’t like fast, and linger over the ice cream sundaes in life.”
    Marilyn vos Savant

“How does one become a butterfly?” she asked pensively. “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.”
    Trina Paulus
    Hope for the Flowers

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming --"WOW-- What a Ride!”
    Author unknown

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh, and congratulations to Ivy & Paggy. I do hope you enjoy the book!

Cathy, I'm glad you came to meet my friends, they are good for the soul, eh? This blog party is the 'book' of the law of attraction among writers and writers, readers and writers. and readers and readers. We have a bond, our books connect us.

  77. Every year I used to buy the page-a-day desk calendar that was inspirational quotes for women, by women. I saved my favs and still have them (most of the whole calendar). I get them out and read a few ever once in a while. As powerless as we can sometimes feel, especially in this mess of an economy, the power of words, the right words at the right time, can inspire new heights in us.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Oh yes, Will Rogers! What a card! He had lots of good ones.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Goodnight then folks from a grey dark cloudy sky France. Loved this quotes day, must get together and do it again sometime.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Goodnight Glyn, we could do a quotes day at your blog sometime. Wanna?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Holy Cow, Batman! Carrie sent a notice to - wait for it - 10,000 people about the blog party!

Carrie, darling, you are the BFF I have ever had. From 5,000 miles away, you have always been supportive of my writing, even to take the time when you can to proof this blog every day. (any mistakes are things I've added later). I love you - not for this, but because you are a wonderfully creative person.

    ReplyDelete
  82. YES! I did mean to type ten THOUSAND -- OMG! You really got me on that one. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  83. All this writer energy and I just got a flash of an opening scene for another ms. I have the titles on note cards of 8 other mss on my bulletin board - means the first chapter (at least) has been written. I best get typing! You can quote me on that too.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I meant, all this writer energy at the blog party.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaack!

And I just loved the quotes throughout the day...especially Glyn's Bob Dylan quote, "If there was an original thought out there, I could use one..."

10,000 people? WOW...and I thought I was doing good posting it out there for the 50 or so people who visit my site each day...I'm in awe...humbled...and how do I grow my list that big?

    ReplyDelete
  86. As Europe drifts off to sleep, the Americans should be arriving home from work soon.

Wonder what other quotes we'll get. Yep, just talking to myself and typing it, isn't that scary?

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hello Peggy! We crossed posts. Yeah, isn't Carrie amazing? And that isn't a social network, that is her network. Cool, eh?

So what quote have you thought of while at work?

    ReplyDelete
  88. So...some more quotes from my quote journal...

"To be searching for the Mystery is to already come upon it" Maria Harris

"A light is shinning in the Brokeness and the Brokeness cannot master it." The Gospel of St. John

"Not to discover weakness is the artifice of strenght." Emily Dickinson

"To have faith is to believe unconditionally." DM Ruiz

"The word is so powerful that one word can chang a life or destroy the lives of millions of people." DM Ruiz

"It is always better to ask questions than to make an assumption." DM Ruiz

"You must do the thing you think you cannot do." Eleanor Roosevelt

"Whatever you can do or dream you can begin it. Boldness has genious, power and magic in it." Goethe

"You have to believe in yourself. That much is certain." Charlie Chaplin

"Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air." John Quincy Adams

"The greatest discovery of my generation is htat human beings can alter their lives by altering their ATTITUDES of mind" William James (I need to use this in one of my breast cancer posts!!)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Oh good ones! I admire Eleanor Roosevelt. I even named a character after her in Storm Surge. They are nothing alike, but the nod is there.

About 25 years ago, I started writing quotes that resonated for me into a journal. It started out neat and orderly, but as it is nearly filled, I have sliped short ones in the spaces between the longer ones. That is my bedside stand reading.

I used to have a HERO file in my desk when I did child abuse investigations. On the really tough days, I'd pull it out, read something, or look at one of the photos I'd torn from a magazine before I put it in recycling. I had several pictures of Eleanor R. in there.

There are so many inspiring people then and now. I think I'm going to have to order Karl's quote book. Seems to be something I would really enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  90. And more...tired of me yet?

"Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being." Goethe

"When I give - I give myself." Walt Whitman

"Courage is the ladder on which all the other virtures mount." Clare Booth Luce

"Gratitude helps us stop trying to control outcomes." Melodie Beattie

"When you want something, all the Universe conspires to help you achieve it." Paulo Coelho channeling Goethe in "The Alchemist."

"Life is the moment I'm living right now." Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

"We are always creating exactly what we are most commited to." Debbie Ford

"The bitter truth is better than a sweet lie." Russian Proverb

"Never believe anyone who says you don't deserve what you want." Taylor Swift

  91. Carrie - can I pick your brain on how to grow my own list? I'd so appreciate it!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Nadine,

a HERO file? That's so cool! And what a fabulous idea...can I borrow it?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Another Debbie Ford quote: "The root of all our negative behaviors is FEAR."

  94. "established in wholeness, in the state of calmness, of inner peace, perform action." Ancient Vedic Text

  95. Peggy, you are on a wave! Ride it, not tired of you at all.

Use any of my ideas. Those two sure work for me. Lot's of qood quotes from lyrics as Glyn and Cathy said - should start a book of those.

Carrie is probably asleep. It is almost MN in the UK. She helped me tweak some of my ideas about this party - she is a director of marketing in the UK...smart lady. She knows her stuff, as you can tell.

Keep posting. Oldest kid (and my fav for the next hour - I'm a push over for Chinese food) went for Chinese take out...I'll be reading but busy with my chop sticks. he he he ...

  96. One of my favorite inspirational pieces is Max Ehrmann's 1926 piece, DESIDERATA. It begins, "Go placidly amid the noise and haste..." I really like this section, "You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees & the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should..."

I love the whole thing. But that on a note card taped where I can see it when I look up from my desk really grounds me.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Do you guys tend to gravitate toward inspiring works in literature and film - and music?

I'm not talking religion, which is inspiring to the members, and I don't want to get into that here - it isn't the place.

  101. (Our) Susan Gabriel had a quote from Marianne Williamson earlier this week. http://www.susangabriel.com/blog/writers-and-writing/are-you-playing-small

  102. I have to admit that other than Thomas Merton and a few other monastic writers, I usually do not read spiritual materials these days.

I do watch quite a bit of film that has inspiring story lines. Looking back over this week, we had Nick with SciFi and Cathy with transitions. SciFi often has an inspiring story line, and when not, it inspires us to imagine the possibility of scientific discoveries. With transitions we are inspired to grow and understand, even with sweet movies such as As Good As It Gets.

And all of you inspire me.

Since I seem to be the only one here. I think I'll take a nap and be ready for DJ at MN. I'll be back later. Leave posts.

  103. Morning from a grey rainy France.
    1. A quotes day on my blog, go for it.
    2. The quote from Bob Dylan 'If there's an original thought out there...' is from the song 'Brownsville Girl' cd Loaded (which is poor and Greatest Hits (which is good as it also has Series of Dreams on it - see the youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-gamWTze6g) Rambling now, Brownsville Girl is just full of superb lines.
    Have a good day Denyse.
    And you Nadine.
    And the rest of you.
    Only 48hours left to party.
And of course thankyou for a wonderful day Karl. I enjoyed yours.

  105. Hi Gang!

    Wow - AMAZING QUOTES.

I read through every single one. (Sorry I wasn't around as much as I'd planned yesterday: I caught flu at the weekend and spent much of it in bed!)

    So, back to it........

I *really* loved Glyn's contributions. This one particularly:

'He not busy being born is busy dying' Bob Dylan.

And Peggy won me over with:

"Be Realistic...Plan for a Miracle" ~ Guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh

Nadine - you have got to love Desiderata. A really fantastic poem.

Carrie - thanks for EVERYTHING, and YES, it was a bad hair day! Haha. The humidity in Thailand was immense!

But I think that the winner here has to be....

    Cathy :)

    ...with...

"If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair, we’d never have a friendship, we’d never go into business, because we’d be cynical. Well, that’s nonsense. You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down." - Ray Bradbury

It just rings true with me.

    Much love to everyone --

    Karlos xox
