Party with ERIN COLLINS!

Here we GO! Week two and we are still partying!

The winners of Jen's books from Friday are Ella and Carrie! Congratulations! Email me, please.

Erin Collins, where to start? Erin and I have never met, we have never talked on the phone, and I realized the other day that I have not read her book! How weird is that?

What I can tell you about Erin is this, we've known each other for several years. Any time I've asked Erin for help with something, she doesn't ask questions, she shows up. I try very hard to do the same for her.

Now I said I hadn't read Shadow Walk: The Gathering. That is true to an extent, I have read an early version of her manuscript. I distinctly remember the scene with the van...oh my, that is so scary. Erin just eases into this frightful situation like a hot knife to cold butter. I was hooked instantly, then taken down this very scary road before I knew what happened. And there is no way to stop reading once you start.

If you have read my books you know there is a lot of beach time, but think about it, zero on or in the water stuff. ZERO. I got caught in the undertow at Moro Bay, one of the deadliest parts of the California Pacific. Erin has this scene where (I hope it okay to tell this) this guy is in a tank of fluid and can't get out...my heart was racing when I read that. OMGosh!

This very nice lady can scare the bee-jeebies out of anyone. I never saw that one coming! Never.

Read these excerpts and see what I'm talking about: http://www.erin-collins.com/bookshelf.html See what I mean? Erin has you smelling cookies fresh out of the oven, then BAM!

Party Game: Post a comment about what scares YOU. Also, I keep forgetting to mention, ask any writing question you'd like to ask Erin. Posts in the comment section are what make you eligible to win Shadow Walk: The Gathering.

You knew I was going to start with this song, didn't you?

Coming tomorrow is ANDREW REVEL!

  1. Everyone is sleeping in this morning. Maybe no one wants to say what scares them. (Tip: don't confess anything you don't want on the internet.)
Like I hinted, I'm afraid of drowning. I love to swim - in a pool. And only if it isn't too wild, grab me, and I'm out of there. I don't like being dunked. In short, I'm no fun in the water.
I'm also not that keen on potluck dinners. Some of those dishes are down right scary!

  2. Morning, Nadine. Thought it was about time I checked in at the party!

As a writer, what scares me is starting a big project, especially when I'm not 100% sure if I can hack it or not. Generally, once I'm into a project, I'm not too bad; but even though I've written quite a few books and courses, I still find the prospect of starting a new one rather daunting.

Hi to Erin as well. As a big fan of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, I think from your description I'd enjoy her books as well!

  3. Hello Nick,

Thanks for this, by the way, http://www.mywritingblog.com/writer/2009/08/visit-nadines-blog-party.html

What scares me is opening my mouth about how many posts I've done. Heh heh heh...

Yeah, isn't that strange about Erin. She is the nicest person every, but what comes out of her keyboard is a bit scary, now a LOT scary!

  4. Okay, read my last post and let's have a show of hands...should I go to bed so I can type right?

    Nadine...2 AM Pacific Time

  5. I am going to catch a nap. It is about 4 AM where Erin lives. She'll be here before too much longer.

Carrie said she'd pop in and make sure the coffee and tea kettle are perking along for when everyone comes by.

  6. Oopps! Very impressive! What scares me the most? I can think of three things!!

1-When I read the ghost story or any kind of scary book. It’s scary more than I watch TV.
2-CAT EYES at night! Just like the eyes in this video. The reason? It’s just like Ghost eyes!
3-Reading something scary which makes me end up by dreaming at night.

Hi Erin, Ill to grab of your book if I happen to see somewhere in bookshop in my country (Cambodia) OR when anyone of my friend goes abroad. But the only thing is I don’t want to give up reading your book if it happens to be too scary! You know like getting me to a nightmare. I suffer from something like this. For example: like last time I used to read Stephen Kings and I ended up dreaming of someone tried to murder me at night. lolzz

  7. Hello Panharath,

Switched the last load of laundry and thought I'd ck back one more time.

Yes, that scary stuff really gets to me too.

  8. I meant to say, I like your choice of music, Nadine - very appropriate, and great video too!

My friends Simon Pitt and Tony Wille (aka Redman Greenman) perform a version of this song as part of their cabaret act. You can see a video I took of them here if you like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_J-qcFlrgM Sorry the lighting's a bit ropey. Watch out for the unexpected segue about 2/3 of the way through!

  9. Hi Nadine,

interesting that you have fear of drowning and will only swim in a pool because I have an irrational fear of sharks and find it very difficult to swim in the sea. Strange really as we don't tend to get sharks in the UK.
I blame my parents for letting me watch Jaws when I was too young. :-)

A couple of years ago I did a Past Life Regression workshop and discovered that I had been a gentleman sailor on board a sinking ship. The feelings, smells and thoughts I had in this persona were so tangible and made me wonder if there was a link between this and my fear of sharks.

    ReplyDelete
  10. and, as if having a fear of sharks isn't enough, I also freak out if I'm in a room where the wardrobe doors are ajar. I kid you not.

There is nothing as terrifying to me as a door half open...my imagination goes in to overdrive on all the possible scenarios as to what is behind that door.

Even now I tend to prop something up against my wardrobe so that I wont see it open...or even worse...hear that ominous creak.

Brrrr, just thinking about it is giving me goosebumps right now.

  11. Good morning everyone. I'm happy to be here.

    Let's get ready to party!

  12. Panharath,
My book is kind of scary, but I don't think it's too scary...LOL.
The only thing is when I would work in my villain, I only worked on him during the day. It gave me the heebie jeebies to work on him at night. GRIN

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kate, my partner (Jayne) has that same thing about open doors. If the wardrobe door is even slightly open at night, someone (i.e. me) has to get out of bed and close it.

My sister also told me recently that when we were both young, she was terrified that I had a Cyber Man (from Doctor Who) in my wardrobe. Maybe it's a girl thing?

  14. Hi Erin

Sorry I cross-posted over you. Glad to meet you, I think ;-)

  15. Nick,
It's nice to meet you too.
    Are you a writer?

    Erin

  16. Coffee,
I'm the same way about my windows. I have to have all the shades down at night. If I don't, I get the feeling someone is staring through the window....I get scared that if I look out, someone will be looking back at me.
Been that way my whole life. LOL.
Yet, here I am, writing scary books. LOL.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm also afraid of sharks. I won't go swimming in the ocean---ANY ocean, because of that.
JAWS was enough to convince me to stay out of the water. LOL

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  18. So what scares me? I was a very good swimmer. I trained with the Olympic squad. Drowning terrifies me.
    http://glynpope.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi, Glyn, glad you could stop by. Drowning terrifies me too.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  20. I can relate to that Erin,

about 10 years ago I went through my "alien abduction" phase and read numerous accounts which put my imagination into overdrive. I used to dream about aliens staring at me through the window.

Nick: As a very young child I imagined in a half-sleep state that there was a Dalek in my bedroom and couldn't understand how it had got up the stairs. :-)

From time to time I suffer from sleep paralysis which is probably at the top of my list for "things that scare me". I now have a mental checklist that I use to determine whether I am actually awake or not. One of the features of SP is the feeling of being restrained by someone.something in the room...not pleasant I can tell you.

You know...I'm seriously beginning to wonder if I should call in the men in white coats now!!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hi Erin

In reply to your question, yes, I'm a full-time freelance writer, based in the UK. I write mainly non-fiction books, articles, distance-learning courses, and so on. I do write fiction as well, however, and am giving away a copy of my humorous SF novella The Festival on Lyris Five later in the Blog Party!

    Nick

    ReplyDelete
  22. Coffee,
Now, being restrained, that would terrify me too.
My mother used to suffer from SP. She hasn't had that happen to her in a long time.
From her desctiption, that has to be horrible.

The men in white coats? Nah! You're fine...LOL

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  23. Nick,
I just checked out your Novella. It sounds interesting.
    I like quirky books.
BTW, my favorite author is Dean Koontz. I like his writing.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  24. Erin:

Yes, I love Dean Koontz's books too, especially the Odd Thomas books and the Moonlight Bay trilogy. I just wish he would get on and write the last book in the Moonlight Bay series!

    Nick

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nick,

I love the Odd Thomas Series too.
I especially loved Tick Tock. If you haven't read it, do so. It's a great read.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes, I've read Tick Tock too. I did enjoy it, though I wouldn't say it was one of my personal favorite Koontz titles. Others I've particularly liked include The Bad Place, The Face and Hideaway. But honestly, there are so many, it's hard to choose.

    Nick

    ReplyDelete
  27. Nick, I hear that. His books all have some quirky aspect to them, which I love.

I would like to see some of his books turned into movies. That would be awesome.

    Erin

  28. I used to be terrified of spiders.
Thank goodness I am no longer afraid of them.

Post for a chance to win a free, signed copy of my book, Shadow Walk: The Gathering@!!!!

  30. Wow! I slept through all of that!

Only my Army Airborne kid and I know how to shut doors - you guys would go nuts around here! (Boy am I goint to be in BIG trouble if the others read this!)

I'm not wild about sharks either, I think JAWS did us all in!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nadine,
This is so much fun! I'm having a blast.

Yeah, about sharks. When I lived in Florida, there were some beach areas with shark infested waters. Seeing the closed beach sign with a shark on it, really can make one think, "I don't think I want to swim at ANY beaches around here." Although I did a little, but it was scary and I never got out more than waist-high in the water. I still shudder to this day when I think about it.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  32. Let me clarify something here. The beaches I went to did NOT have sharks, but there were lifeguards and shark watchers.
    Scary, huh?

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi, chicas! I've missed you the last two days while I was away!

My biggest fear are dead people. I was very young when several family members died, I even found my grandma so that's probably why...I often have these freaking creepy dreams when they come for me, grabbing me and I wake up, still feeling their cold fingers around my wrist...
    Brrrrrr...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ivy,
First, it's nice to meet you.
    Welcome and good luck.
That's scary for sure! Bless your heart.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  35. OoooOoH, Ivy!

    That's scary.

I missed you too. Did HT arrive?

How about SS for the book you won?

    Nadine

    ReplyDelete
  36. Erin, isn't this a lot of fun? You've talked to lots of people around the world, I'm the only one from the states so far!

    Isn't that so cool.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nadine,
    That is way cool.
It's a lot of fun blogging like this.
    Everyone is so nice!

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes, I have nice friends. So are you considering blogging now?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I sure am.
This is a great way to promote one's book.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi, Erin! Nice to see you again, I got hooked to the story the first time I read the synopsis on yor web page! Scary!

Nadine, HT didn't arrive *sob* I met the post lady outside, and with bright eyes asked her "Anything for me?" but all she had was the phone bill (as a matter of fact, they are creepy too sometimes...)

SS? Sounds perfect! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

    Congrats Carrie and Ella!

  41. What SCARES me? Ah, I told Nadine, not sure I'm ready to tell the world! But I LIKE spiders, snakes, sharks (watching, not swimming with, unless basking or whale), swimming, boats, flying, climbing, heights...

So, can you guess what scares me? Nah - don't worry. I'll just let you wonder.

    Carrie

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ivy, bet it was delayed due to the holiday. Maybe tomorrow!

Carrie, you are such a daredevil. When we climbed Papago Hills, you were right out there on the ledge. I was...um, not.

Erin, yes blogs are cool, but the ones that are hard sale blogs, don't hold my interest. So I don't read more than the first big BUY MY STUFF and I move on.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm trying to think what Carrie is scared of...
    Charley's cooking...that was pretty bad.
Not swimming in the ocean, not flying, not heights. Hmmm that's a tough one. Guess I'll stick with Charley's cooking.

    (Charley is my husband.)

    Nadine

    ReplyDelete
  44. LOL...
I won't let my hubby cook, even outdoor on the grill.

I do all the cooking around my house...well, sometimes my mother does, but not often.

    Erin

  45. Morning all.

I'm Pat. I just want you all to know I read Erin's book twice. How's that for sucking up brownie points? (needless to say I loved the book)

What scares me? Well, these days, because I'm getting older, falling off a horse, not being able to breathe (a trip to the ENT dr.
caused a panic attack when she squirted some thing up my nose and the system got numb. (yikes) Marketing for some reason sets off my
fear adrenalin going. I'm not sure what else at the moment.

I'm glad to meet all of you. I'll be in and out all day, so will post intermittenly.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hiya, Pat.

Welcome to the blog. I'm so glad you stopped by.

    Hugs,
    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi Pat,
I'd agree, I'm not fond of the dr or dentist. They ALWAYS find something wrong. (I NEVER go to the shrink for that reason!)

Glad you stopped by...stay, nearly three weeks of the party still to go.

    Nadine

    ReplyDelete
  48. Wow,

That's like the birthday parties we used to have. One for "just us." One with good friends. One in Michigan with other good friends. One a lunch party. Always a good excuse for a party with friends.

I've never participated in a party blog before. This is really cool.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Pat,

Isn't this neat? I love it. I want to blog all the time now...LOL

    It's just too fun.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  50. Maybe that's because this hasn't been done before. There are two sisters who consult on blogging who host a weeklong party. This is very different (not saying better, just different). I don't have a service to sell.

Look in the sidebar at the left, if you click "99" you'll see how it all started. The first mention of it I made was the day before that in my newsletter notice. This was (or is) not a planned marketing event. This is simply a party with lots of prizes. Isn't that cool?

There will be a bit of a lull here as the Eurpoeans switch out to the evening crew and the Americans come on board.

Feel free, Pat, to email your list and invite them.

BRB, I have to do a couple of things, keep Erin company!

    Nadine

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hurry back, Nadine.

I also think this is a wonderful idea.
    I'm having lots of fun.

What scares you, bloggers? Let me know.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  52. Erin,
I've emailed everyone I know to come keep an eye on you...you might need intervention!
    This is fun, isn't it?
    Nadine

    ReplyDelete
  53. Seriously, what scares me? Being unemployed. It is no fun.
    Nadine

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hi Erin--

We're supposed to keep you company. LOL! Just took a shower, my hair is drying as we speak, and I'm wondering how to get my own blog going again after it's been silent for the past six months. Any ideas?

See--now you've gotten me to want to blog again. I guess that is writing though. Right?

ps: Why do we have to go through the profile thing everytime we post? Just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi everyone,

What scares me most (it terrifies me, actually) is the thought of my children dying before me. I don't think I could live through it. I'm also not too keen on drowning.

Truth be told, I can get scared of practically anything. That's why it's so strange to me when my friends comment on how brave I am. (I guess I 'feel the fear and do it anyway'!)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Susan,
Welcome, and it's nice to meet you. I guess we all can get scared of things, depending on the circumstances.

    Hugs,
    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  57. Pat,
I agree with you. This makes me want to blog all the time...but I would need to save some time for writing my next book, for sure...LOL

Glad you're keeping me company today.

    Hugs,
    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  58. Bloggers,

I would like for you to get to know me.
I was raised on reading, but for years and years, that's all I was, was a reader. Oh, when I read a book, I could put things in my mind in the book that would make it better (in my own opinion of course).
Well, in 1995, I decided to write a book. I wanted to tell a story of my own, and thus Shadow Walk: The Gathering was born. I didn't work in it every day. I think if I had, I would have been published long before now.
The writing bug has hit me full force now, and I write every day, whether it's for just me, or if I'm working on a work-in-progress.

I have to write or go crazy. Writing is my passion. It's what drives me.

So, there you have my story.

    What's your story?

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh yes my grandson dying before me. The thought terrifies me. I was in tears a while ago when he cut himself and needed stitches. (He's three, so only a tot, if he's been thhirty I might have coped better!)
    g.
    http://glynpope.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  60. Glyn,
I can certainly understand that fear. I have grandchildren too. It's hard not to worry about them.

All we can do is pray and try to enjoy them as much as possible.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm back. Have everything packaged for the post office and am filling out the last customs sheet.

Kids dying. Oh my yes! Two of my three sons are in the military, the third is going. I'm furious that adults can't solve their problems without killing our children or teaching them to kill. Bet I'm a total wreck when they get sent to combat.

So, on the lighter side...I'm scared the webcamera will turn itself on and you'll see I'm still in my jammas!

Pat, try signing on your blog, then come back here to post. I bet (don't know) that you won't have to select a profile then. Let me know if it works.

    Nadine

    ReplyDelete
  62. Nadine,
I hope your sons won't get sent to combat. That is scary.

And as for me, I'm in some comfy capris and an oversized t-shirt, no shoes...LOL

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think the fear for the(grand)kids is something every (grand)parent experiences, but we try not to think about it. Just imagining what might go wrong throughout the day would drive us insane.
One more thing I fear. Open water. Not depth, not sharks, not drowning, just miles and miles of water all around me...

    ReplyDelete
  64. Nadine, I have the cam-fear each time I'm at my computer LOL it's right above my head.

Erin, same here! A shirt that reaches down to my knees and a pair of old, faded sweatpants!

Erin, where did the inspiration for this story come from?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Susan,
Seems like we are as strong as we need to be, when we need to be. But...

Erin, they are in combat units and their specailities guarentee combat time. Only hope is the wars end soon. Prez. Obabma in AZ this week. Maybe he will read my blog???

Ivy, so visual, got to close my eyes and not look. Shall I tell everyone how brave you are?

Everyone, Ivy is translating my books into Croatian. Ain't that somethin'!

    Nadine

    ReplyDelete
  66. I've opened my website. I'll see if it works.

I 'm still trying to figure out my webcamera. If I even have one. :-)

I've never tried to use one

    ReplyDelete
  67. Nadine,

My prayers are with your sons. And to end this war.

    Hugs,
    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks Erin,
I tell myself they are a gift we are given to care for, but they are not ours.

So...off to the pool, anyone coming?

  69. SPLASHHHHH!!!!!!!!
    A swim sounds heavenly.

Ooooh, that water's cold when you first jump in.

    Erin

  70. Want some stats? Then I really am going swimming.

358 page loads since midnight and it isn't noon yet (here). I know we didn't do all that, so there are people here laughing and pointing at us!

Someone is going to have to jump in here and keep Erin from talking to herself. Trust me, she doesn't bite.

OUCH! Erin, you do bite, whatcha do that for? I didn't splash you. Honest, heh heh heh...

    Nadine

  71. Translation in progress. So far so good :)
Enjoy your swimming, I'm bringing the kid to bed.
    xo,

  72. Nadine, I didn't bite THAT hard...rofl....I wish I had a pool, and a laptop. Must be nice, Nadine.....LOL

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ivy, OooOOooOooH! I'm so excited! Kiss the hobbit for me.

Erin, if you had a laptop AND a pool in the same place, you'd have BIG problems. I'm on a desktop...but really am going swimming when the kids quit calling in for instructions on their assigned errands. (Bless, I love those guys!) Can't have cell phone with pool either. They don't float. Yes you did bite hard, see the mark is still on my arm?

  74. ROFL, Nadine
Well, enjoy your swim.....think of me, sweltering in this Texas heat.
    :-P

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  75. Erin,
Yep, got a kid down there at one of the Texas universities. Misses this dry heat, so I'm told.

Here is something most people are surprised to learn about Arizona. In Phoenix, it never freezes, right? My kids wear shorts all year round, except for every early morning in the winter, like 4:30 - 5 AM early.

In the desert, at night, in the winter it cools down to jacket or sweater (jumper) temps. In the summer, the sun is so intense that the heat continues to radiate from the warmed surfaces throughout the night, so it doesn't cool much.

Having said that, there is no need to bury water lines below the freeze line (we don't have a freeze line). So the water lines are not deep and the water comes out of the hose more like tap water or warmer.

Have to tell you, I like it when the pool is slightly warm. Feels like floating in wet air, can't feel the temp difference between the water and skin. It is the most Zen experience. Very peaceful.

So, Erin, how did you end up writing a thriller? Did you start with that genre in mind?

    Nadine

  76. The random question of the week on PRTV last week was "What is your biggest fear". I was interviewing a comedian and he said his biggest fear was screwing up on the Tonight Show or David Letterman and getting booed. I used to be afraid of public speaking, but then I realized why i was afraid and I conquered it. There's a lot of pressure to not fail when you're performing in front of people. Any time I've played music, I always got nervous and needed a few beverages to build up my courage. Then I realized...I'm not even a real musician. So I didn't feel any pressure. If I sound good...awesome. If I sound bad...I have an excuse. That's why I think I have so much fun singing karaoke now.

My biggest fear has always been bats. Gross. I'm like Ace Ventura.

And I'm afraid of public restrooms as well.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Nadine, Arizona sounds nice.

I got this idea for Shadow Walk by watching the X Files, and just posed a question....what if?
Shadow Walk: The Gathering was meant to be a thriller from the beginning.
It is an End Time thriller, but it is not religious..just a premise on how the AntiChrist might be created.
My villain has no redeemable qualities whatsoever. He is the epitome of evil.
So much so, that I couldn't work on his charactger at night. I got the heebie jeebies doing that---once.

Shadow Walk, being my first book, took me ten years of off and on (more off than on) writing to complete it. It took me another two years to get it published.
But, I'm proud of the way it turned out. I've a number of great reviewes on amazon.com.
It's exciting to see one's book published.
I know I'm still excited about mine.

my next one won't take nearly as long as did my first one.
It took me years to learn the craft, and I'm still learning the craft. I don't think I will ever learn it all, as times, genre, and the industry are alwyas in flux.
    I love the writing process.
Let me say here and now that I had a lot of help from some very dear friends who kept me going when I wanted to give up, helped me edit my book, and just were there for me.
During that time is when I learned a lot about writing.

I'm hoping my next book will be better than the first.

  78. Hi, Andrew, welcome.

I'm Erin Collins, nice to meet you.
I, too, am afraid of public restrooms....not that I won't use them, but I am very cautious when it comes to that.
I don't like bats either. They're kind of creepy. LOL
    Thanks for posting, Andrew.

  79. Hello Andrew,
I have your email, but haven't viewed the episode yet...been partying! You're up tomorrow. I'm writing up 'your day' now. I'll send you a preview, and it will go live tonight, MN AZ time.

Erin, I write at night, I sooOOooOOo could not do that scarry stuff. Better? Different, I'd say. Each of my books has its own 'personality' and the writing probably improves with experience. Keep me posted on your WIP (Work In Progress).

  80. Nice to meet you too Erin. I look forward to reading your work. I can't stand bats, but Batman has always been my favorite super hero. Weird.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Wow - what a day! And it's not over yet. :-)

Charley's cooking - well, burnt steaks isn't the worst thing in the world. Kids dying before us - oh yeah that's an awful thought!

Performing? I used to be scared, but I do it so much - it doesn't bother me now.

I'm scared of being... found out. When people meet me and see that actually I'm just a boring housewife type who happens to play a bit of guitar and write some... and that all the bravado and front is just that and that inside there's... um...

That's what I'm scared of. Amongst other things.

Andrew - Nadine has told me so much about you, I will definitely check out your blog party tomorrow if I can.

And then, folks, I'm off to sunny Mallorca for a week so - you'll have to party without me. We don't even have a land-line there, let alone internet!! Though I might creep into a cafe at some point... can't stay away all week!

    Have a greatm time folks,

    Carrie

  82. Andrew,
I like batman too, but hes different. LOL.

Nadine, I write some at night, but not on my scary characters....LOL...I save them for daytime.

Carrie, I hope you have fun on vacation. Sounds like fun.

    Erin

  83. Well...he did BECOME Batman because he was afraid of bats and embraced his fears. Maybe I should give it a try. Then again when I was a little kid I let a spider bite me as an experiment, but I still lack the ability to climb walls and shoot webbing out of my fingers. Ah well.

I usually only write at night. Writing dark material can take a mental toll on you regardless of when you write, but for me personally it almost made it easier to write that material at night.

  84. lol, Andrew.

I always wanted to be Wonder Woman and fly the invisible plane....LOL, but. oh well.

And yes, writing dark material can take its toll on you.

  85. If I have missed anyone on this blog, I apologize.
I have tried to answer everyone.
    This is so much fun!

Please post and tell me about yourselves.

  86. Hi, I'm Nadine, and...um, I'm a writer.

Carrie, I think everyone has that fear. Being a housewife is boring, but that doesn't make 'us' boring. I think people get a good sense of who we are through our words, songs, actions. I think people embrase the authenticity of who we are as individuals. Titles and labels aren't who we are.

Nothing wrong with just 'being' ~ someone mentioned Thomas Merton, at the party or on something they write (blog, website).

    ReplyDelete
  87. Here, here, Nadine.....we are not labels, we are beings....complex, fascinating.
You said it well, my friend.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  88. It can be a battle at times. I know there are days when the 'role' or label gets pushed at me fairly hard. And sometimes, *being* includes being that.

    Nadine

  89. Someone sent me an email with a "Yearly Dementia Test" ~ wonder if I should open it???

    ReplyDelete
  90. Don't do it, Nadine! ROFL.
    Send if to me. Giggle.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  91. So Erin, I know you are having a blast, are you going to become a blogger too?

    ReplyDelete
  92. You betcha.
I'm hooked now. I have a blog that I have neglected for too long now.

I'm going to use it for what it's intended for....blogging. LOL.

This is such a neat way to get to know your readers and other writers.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yes, I'm having lots of fun too. Both the guest writers and party guests have been fantastic to twitter, facebook, and blog this party. I'm really blessed with good people around me. We still have 14 days to party, are you up for it? We have lots of autographed books to give away!

    ReplyDelete
  94. So what makes a good blog, everyone? Let's throw out some ideas here...keep this going even after Erin's day.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Okay people! Let's party!

Snack trays are on the table, as well as drinks. Help yourselves.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  96. MMMM, I'm stuffed.

People on my newsletter mailing list will be receiving an email tonight. Not on that list? Sign up on my website home page. Link is under my picture.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Erin, I know you use a pen name, how has that worked out?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Nadine, it has worked out well, since very few folks can pronounce my real name..LOL, at least my last name...and I like it simple.
Erin Collins seemed to work so I took that name to write with.
And, I like the image of anonymity that goes with it.
Of course, if I ever get famous, that won't matter..LOL.. (as if).
But it's worked out for me nicely so far.

  99. I think that Shadow Walk is one of the best stories of its kind that I have read in years. It is scary because of the terrifying idea that it just might happen this way one day soon. This book is the thing nightmares are made of and I can't wait for a sequel to this fabulously frightening tale.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Micki,
Thank you so much. I appreciate it.

I thoroughly enjoyed your book as well.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yeah, doesn't seem like Erin would write such scary stuff, does it?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Micki, what genre do you write? What's the title of your book?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Nadine,
I write in almost all genres in short fiction and non-fiction and essays--[ublished for 25 years in newspapers and small magazine. I just published my first book in 2007, a memoir called . . .AND THE WHIPPORWILL SANG. It was a death bed promise to my 14 yr-old daughter, killed by a DWI vehicular homicide.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Wow! Micki,

Sounds interesting. What's your website or blog address?

Keep track of me and you'll have to help host the next party. How's that sound?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Nadine, I know her. She went to bed.
I will talk to her about it.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  106. Not to back track....but I also fear being just a housewife.

    AR

    ReplyDelete
  107. Andrew, you know I fear that too sometimes. I'm a housewife too.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  108. Ah Andrew. Me too. If I had known this when I was bustin' my butt to work two jobs to put myself through university... You're up next. I'll probably take a nap. What time are you getting up, your time?

Erin, can you post a link to somewhere for Micki? I'd like to read more. You can tell her next time I throw a party, but warn her I never give warning about what I'm going to do, you just have to pay attention. Right?

    ReplyDelete
  109. http://www.freewebs.com/butch1025/index.htm

This is her website. And yes, I will tell her.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  110. Erin, thanks! It will be a while... I might do one of kids' books before the holidays. Not sure when I'll do another one like this...but bet I do. This has been a ton of fun and we are only a quarter way into the party. Isn't this a kick? Who would have guessed?

    ReplyDelete
  111. I know! It sure is fun@!

    I'm having a good time.

    Erin

    ReplyDelete
  112. Erin, you are such an underachiever. Only 596 page loads today...the most so far. My finger nearly falls off scrolling to the bottom of the comments to post. LMAO.

Andrew is sending me something I want to add to his post I have scheduled. When I do that, in about 5 min, you might not be able to comment for a few minutes. It will come back on line, so don't leave...

    ReplyDelete
  113. While I'm waiting for Andrew, let me share this: I was asked if I had to delete any comments during the party. The answer is, NO. None.

I have been so wonderfully surprised with how this party is going. All of the feedback from the guest authors has been nothing short of giddy. You guys are the bestest ever. I'm serious. You ROCK! Thank you for coming back every day, taking the risk to jump in and talk with my author friends and with each other. I'm feeling the love, aren't you?

    ReplyDelete
  114. I kind of fear getting grounded. As Nadine knows...I tend to move a lot. In the past two years I've lived in Wisconsin, Arizona, Texas, and back to Wisconsin. If I do the same thing too long I get uncomfortable and bail. I've had over 20 jobs in 10 years. I start a new one on Monday. I've never been fired...I just get bored and move on. Hopefully I'll adapt to consistency now that I'm starting a family. But I don't plan on changing my ways too much. I guess I just kind of fear people getting tired of me moving around and replacing me. This whole fear thing has been a good topic. I've done a lot of thinking today. Thanks guys!

Nadine - I go to sleep when most people wake up. I'll probably be up until 5 or 6 Wisconsin time.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Did you get the questions for Thurs? My fear at the moment is I typed a whole lot out and they didn't fly across the Atlantic...

  116. Glyn, no worries...it is here. I just finished Andrew a bit ago, and have Susan almost finished, just need to send to her for preview ...and you're next, big guy!

Just heard from Carolyn Howard-Johnson (up on Friday) that her computer has died (probably from all that twittering) and she was borrowing one to send me a note...so we might be swaping around the schedule for next week, but we're cool with that.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Andrew...change shoes so you don't get itchy feet, let your kids grow up in the Revel homeland...see how I boss him around like he is one of my kids?

  118. Well all, I have had a good time, but it's midnight here.
    God bless and good night.

    Erin

  119. Goodnight, Erin! Sweet dreams. Thanks for today. It is 10 PM here and 6 AM (tomorrow) in the UK. I'm going to take a quick nap, but I will come back and answer any posts when I get up. I love you, everyone!

  120. I missed the party b/c I was stuck at work. And today my electricity's gonna be out for 8 hrs. But HI anyway! :)

  121. Greetings from Santiago, Chile.

I've read Erin Collins' Shadow Walk when it was still cooking--good stuff.

    Alexey Braguine

    ReplyDelete
  122. Hi Alexey! Thanks for coming. Stay for the rest of the party?

Erin and I decided yesterday that we hadn't read either's finished book, so we arranged a swap and traded books. I can't wait to get SW and read the finished version.
